We are probably all Narcissists, who love and hate their image, but to which any other is indifferent. This instinct of similarity guides us in life, it screams to us "stop!" before a landscape, a woman, a poem. We may admire others, without feeling the blow. The instinct of similarity is the only line of conduct that is not artificious. But in society only unrefined spirits may appear immune to sins against morality, for they are always attracted by the same type. So some men stick to "blondes", ignoring that often the deeper affinities are the most secret.
